| 内容記述 | Some Japanese learners want to be able to speak Japanese fluently. How do we evaluate their fluency? This paper analyzes three elementary Japanese learners' (C,M,I) interviews in order to find the cause of their fluency. In this analysis the focus is on whether they provide sufficient responses to the interviewer's questions. There are seven types of insufficient replies: 1. grammatical error and misuse, 2. insufficient vocabulary, 3. misunderstanding of the questions, 4. silence, 5. insufficient explanation, 6. avoiding of explanations, 7. lacking of explanations. The most difficult case in maintaining a conversation occurs when one cannot convey his/her understanding of the interviewer's questions. No.4 and No.7 of the above types fall into this category. No.6, on the other hand, needs to indicate that he/she has no intention to avoid the interviewer, because the avoidance of explanations are regarded as his/her rejection of the interview. Otherwise he/she may be evaluated as disfluent Among the three interviewees, I can be evaluated as most fluent. It is not due to his vocabulary or grammatical accuracy, but because of his grasp of the interviewer's response and expectation. | |||||
